History
The Department was established in 2010 as “Department of Chinese Language and Literature for Digital Applications and began the enrollment of international students. In 2013, the Department was renamed “Department of Applied Chinese" for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. It is currently divided into two academic systems: Bachelor’s and Master’s programs; while the former mainly enrolls international students coming from Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and etc., and the latter enrolls local students and international students. The Bachelor's degree, a four-year course, is dedicated to cultivating high-quality professionals with Chinese language skills. In order to strengthen students’ abilities to communicate in Chinese, the curriculum design equips our students with other professional skills in the workplace, such as tour guides and international accountants. The Master's program is a two-year degree program that focuses on the development of "theory" and "practical" abilities and cultivates students who possess an international view with superior teaching skills in Chinese-as-a-second-language teaching. In addition, the curriculum design assists the postgraduates to develop their teaching techniques through observing how the international undergraduates acquire the target language inside the classroom.
