Features of the Department

[Undergraduate Study]

  • The Department is especially for international students whose first language is rather than Mandarin Chinese. In this program, the course design focuses on mastering the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language during the freshman- and sophomore-year studies and it is enhancing the students’ abilities to apply what they learn into various fields, including Chinese cultures and literature, Business Chinese and digital learning and so on in the junior- and senior-year studies.

  • Students are exposed to all Chinese-speaking environment in order to help them acquire the target language effectively and efficiently. Through the well-designed courses, cultivating international students has become our commitment and the Department provides intensive courses that equip the students with the competencies of the language. 

  • The Department offers students extra classes after their scheduled ones to help those who are in need. We arrange the extra classes with the assistance of the postgraduate students, professors, and lecturers.

  • Apart from the course design, students are encouraged to do a double major or minor in another department.

  • After graduating from the Department students can choose to stay in Taiwan for further studies, employment, or to return to their home countries to do a Chinese-related career.

[Postgraduate Study]

  • Postgraduates are permitted to do their internships when studying the Master’s program at the Department of Applied Chinese

  • Postgraduates are arranged to observe the learning of the undergraduates at the Department in order to obtain practical experiences in teaching Chinese as a second language (CSL).
